Salteño Sheep Wool Poncho.

Handcrafted Poncho made on a horizontal hand loom, using ancestral weaving techniques passed down through generations.

  One-cloth poncho.

Product specifications

·       Type: Handwoven poncho

·       Weaving: Traditional horizontal (criollo) loom

Design: “Salteño” — A distinctive feature of this poncho is its traditional knot at the neck-line, known locally as el moño salteño.

This knot is not merely decorative — it reflects a regional identity and a historic way of fastening the poncho while riding or working.

Each artisan ties and finishes the knot by hand, giving every poncho its own unique character.

·       Fiber: 100% natural sheep wool

·       Dye: Hand-dyed with natural pigments extracted from regional plants and minerals

·       Origin: Salta Province, Argentina

·       Availability: Limited production — only a few pieces woven per month by artisan families

Care

·       Spot-clean gently with white soap and cold water.

·       Avoid machine washing.

·       Store in a cool, dry place away from humidity to protect the pure wool from moths.

Why choose this poncho

·       Authentic: Made using techniques passed down through generations.

·       Sustainable: Natural fibers and plant-based dyes.

·       Limited & meaningful: Small-batch production — each piece tells a story.

·       Durable & elegant: Carefully finished on the loom for years of wear.

Pampa poncho designs were used by Argentine gauchos (the Argentine equivalent of cowboys).

They were a fundamental piece of gaucho clothing.
